Here’s a quick video recorded before we kicked off Day 2: Connect.

I’m so involved in conference catalysing (seriously... best job title ever!) that I’ve been falling short on sharing more on the terrific speakers and takeaways I’ve picked up from the Association for Tertiary Education Management conference 2024.

I’ll do an event wrap post tomorrow sharing some of those highlights.

But for today, I wanted to share behind the scenes.

Here’s a quick video recorded before we kicked off Day 2: Connect.

When we kicked off, here are a couple of activities I shared to open the day.

1. Grab your phone.
Close down any open tabs/apps and count how many you have open (I had 43!) - a good metaphor for your life.

📱Question: What tabs are currently open in your mind while you’re here, and how can you shut them down?

2. Reflecting on last night's Brownlow medals.

Where would you allocate your 3-2-1 points from yesterday?

I gave:
3 points to Debbie Haski-Leventhal's keynote, inspiring us with “I will…” statements.
2 points to everyone who showed up so openly and contributed during all of the breakout sessions yesterday.
1. point to those process improvement peeps, who strategically moved levels to get fed faster during the breaks (“Strategic Snackers”).

🏉 The reflection question then was, “Where would you allocate 1 point for yesterday?”

Also, let's talk about dealing with uncertainty when you're an MC.

When I recorded my 12 Rules for Facilitation podcast, Rule 10 was: Assume your technology will always fail.

So, if it works...Bonus!
If it doesn’t, all good, we’ve got a plan.

It was great having that rule guide me today, as we had some audio difficulties as we live-streamed our TERRIFIC presenter joining us from Georgia, USA, Dr Timothy Renick.

As the wonderful QUT tech team went about fixing the challenges, I jumped on stage and focused on doing three things:

1. Giving everyone an update on what was happening
2. Creating a sense of calm “we’ve got this” atittude (even though you’re not sure)
3. Share 1-2 handy questions up your sleeve, to drive a conversational break.

Anyway, that’s the process side of things, and I'll share more of what I've learnt from this brilliant panel of presenters on LinkedIn tomorrow.

If you’re at ATEM24, what’s resonating with you?
