How do you cope with your false starts?

☀️ Sunny day, great book, all was going beautifully…

Til I read something that struck me like lightning.

It was in these two pages of "How to Begin" by 📚 📚 Michael Bungay Stanier.

This year, I’ve already had ideas and things I’ve loved, I’ve created, and also pulled the pin on before they made it past my own head:

Examples:
➡️ A new podcast called “Go Luck Yourself” - I recorded a solo episode, hesitated on publishing, now I’ve moved on.
➡️ A book premise which sounded awesome for 48 hours, now I’ve scrapped it (version 2 is looking a bit better)
➡️ I’m reinvigorating my newsletter this year. However, I'm putting too much pressure to “add value” which has halted any type of progress and has me googling new newsletter platforms (AKA procrastinating). I called it “Working Hero in Progress” (WHIP), even created a video about the new concept, that will only go as far as my desktop.

Usually to cope with this sense of defeat, I’ll just start something else (high #CliftonStrengths Activator here!).

I’ll ignore what’s really going on.

But what MBS tells us to do in these two pages is ACKNOWLEDGE the False Starts.

Why? Well, usually these patterns of behaviour can creep in and continue to wreak havoc on our progress in future.

Woody Allen said, “90% of success is just showing up".

It's important to recognise what's holding us back from getting to the start line.

While we see all the celebrations, accomplishments and victories on LinkedIn (which I love!), we don’t really get to see the series (or, the frustrations) of false starts that occurred prior.

How to Begin is officially out TODAY 11/1/2022 (cool date!). I'll link to it in the comments.
