Why do you think there are so many office chairs being throw outside this year?
It is semi-exciting running around the Brisbane suburbs during the annual city council waste collection week.
So. Many. Possibilities.
My pace shifts when I spot something interesting on the kerbside. I start to wonder, “Do I need that?”, “How could I use it, what’s the potential here?”
Most of the time, I realise I need to stop. We don’t need anymore stuff at our place. But I do feel a little bit sad seeing what's out on the streets, knowing that it’s going to landfill.
This year, I’ve noticed the sheer amount of office chairs being slung outside. Here’s a photo of one casualty.
As I started to see more chairs, all in good condition, I asked myself, “Does this mean that people are actually returning to the office?”.
I didn’t see any Herman Miller’s on the side of the road, so I’ve decided that these discarded office chairs were given the flick because they'd been upgraded. Maybe there isn’t a market for second-hand office chairs anymore?
Genuinely curious on your thoughts: Why do you think there are so many office chairs being throw outside this year?

p.s. I did drive back to one place and picked up two bar stools. SURELY we'll find a use for those!
