7 reasons your program and business needs a private podcast with Leanne Hughes

I'm handing you an idea today that's worth at least $20k, and this idea applies to you whether you’re a consultant working externally, you work internally as a leader, as a director, as a Comms or L&D expert.

I don’t know about you but I often sign up to online webinars, events, courses, programs, [fill in the blank here] with incredible motivation. As I take out my credit card to pay I say, “This is the program I’m going to engage in. I don’t care if it’s on at 2am my time. I’ll be there live!”.

If you’re anything like me you’ll know that, in a couple of weeks, that 2am live webinar happens and I go to bed the night before, thinking, "I don't need to stay up for this. I'll watch the replay!"

Watching that replay keeps getting taken over by other priorities, so I never get that time.

If you run a course, or work internally and you WANT people to hear your message, relying on them to watch a replay is not a good strategy.

As a podcast listener, I’m preaching to the converted. However, you might work internally and want some ideas on how to persuade your company to start a podcast.

Or, you might want a nudge to create your own show.

In this episode I share the Top 7 reasons why I think you, and your company needs to start a podcast.

It’s low friction (no one watches a recording) - it’s easy: This means that anyone can grab the link to your private podcast feed and play it in their favourite podcast app. They don’t need to be in front of a screen. They don’t need to stop what they’re doing. They can walk their dog, do the housework, be on a treadmill, drive around, listening to YOUR SHOW.

2, It’s private: A few years ago companies were nervous to do this because their content would be released to the world. I totally get that.  You can manage it by adding email subscribers. If someone leaves your business, you simply revoke access. You can see the number of downloads

3. Dynamic content: You can release dynamic content. What does this mean? Well let’s say you have a company podcast, and you release episodes, and you have an upcoming live event that you want everyone to attend or contribute to, you can release dynamic content. Think about the implications prompts you could have. Hey, have you checked in on a team member today? Share a favourite photo on Yammer right now? As a course creator you coudl also have dynamic content to remind people of the times of your virtual office hours.

4. You can drip content: You could set up your whole onboarding sequence on it by dripping content. If there’s 5 things someone needs to know, you can create a 5 day onboarding sequence, where every day they receive one new piece of information about the company, or one thing they should do. It’s super fun!

5 It’s low cost: Hosting is cheap!

6. Development opportunity for someone internally: When you’re a podcast host, you become a better interviewer, better facilitator, your brand exponentially jumps, and you learn more about technology. What’s not to love?

7 Develops the best culture: Storytelling through audio… Relationships that are built through podcasting and audio are intmate. Imagine creating that for yourself, or for the leaders in a business, or team members?
