Where are you from?
It’s often AFTER I tell people where I’m from, that they remark, “Oh I’ve always wanted to know your background!”
I’m here to let you know: It’s totally cool to ask!
One of the highlights of consulting in PNG earlier this year (where this picture was taken), was after a brief introduction, I was often asked, “Where are you from?"
I also got this question whenever I met locals in Broome, Western Australia (slightly rephrased, "What mob are you?")
And, when I’m in Thailand (after I get remarks about my height), I’m asked the same great question.
So, if you were ever curious but didn't want to ask:
🇵🇬 My mum is from Inawi Village in Papua New Guinea. She’s Mekeo.
🏴 My dad is from Blaenannerch, a village in South West Wales. He's a Cardiff City supporter.
I encourage you, next time you're curious about someone's background: Ask the question!
It shows natural curiosity towards someone and hey, who doesn’t love talking about themselves (well, that’s my point of view ha!)?
So my question for all of you on LinkedIn today is:
Where are you from? ⬇️
