11 Alanisms
The last time Alan Weiss and I caught up was in Kauai, next week he’s in Brisbane, so I’m sharing some of my fav Alanisms with you.
Btw, today’s your last day to grab your seat at his event that starts on Tuesday. If you're a business owner, come along to disrupt yourself (and your business)!
1. Anyone who tells you that “the only thing you can do about feedback is to listen to it” is a dolt. You can do something about it. You can ignore most of it.
2. No guilt, no fear, no peer.
3. Stop the crazy search for clarity. Life is all about mid-course corrections. If you can live in ambiguity, you can be happy.
4. Real wealth is discretionary time.
5. Be provocative not promotional. The best thing you can hear from a client is, “We never thought about it that way”
6. Being an object of interest, creates interest.
7. Companies talk about mission, vision, values. But no one says “Vision Critical”. Focus on your mission.
8. I've never seen a plumber who came to my house to fix a leak tell me while he’s there, he’s going to caulk all the tiles. That's not what a plumber does because a plumber is smarter than most consultants.
9. I call HR “Hardly Relevant” (ooh, provocative!)
10. Ask yourself, “What can you create that can attract high value?”
For any project, start at the end and work backward, always asking, “What’s the most efficient way to get there?”
11. Too often, we let others set the metrics. We need to figure out what metrics actually matter to us.
